What happens when a Dutch guy in South Africa gets hit with a mysterious illness, can barely move, and is told the only way to get better is to exercise? He buys an e-bike—and ends up riding it across America.

Only Lazy Americans E-Bike is a personal, funny, and unexpectedly emotional documentary that follows Dr. Gregory Maassen, founder of E-Bike Lovers, as he pedals nearly 4,700 miles from Washington, DC to San Francisco.

What starts as a recovery mission turns into a wild cross-country adventure packed with history, mishaps, bad food, amazing people, and a bit of a mystery: who’s the environmentalist that once claimed e-bikes are for “fat, lazy Americans”? And why did that comment stick?

Along the way, Gregory meets veterans, firefighters, skeptics, and true believers—all using e-bikes in ways you wouldn’t expect.

The film looks at how technology, community, and determination can reshape lives—and what it means to move forward when the world says you can’t.

This isn’t just about e-bikes. It’s about recovery, resilience, and the freedom to find your own way—one e-bike pedal stroke at a time.

Come for the ride. Stay for the story.
