21+ miles with toilets or port-a-pottys at beginning and throughout the route.

Lunch stop will take place on the return from the trail end at the Barns at New Market, 13.5 miles into the ride.

We begin the ride at the John V. Baggett Park at the southern trailhead. The former rail route is 11 miles long each way and wide with asphalt paving. It is almost flat with minimal elevation. The trail is superbly maintained and passes through beautiful tree covered parkland and by local farms. It is used by Amish horse and buggy drivers as well as walkers and bikers.

Since this is mostly flat, all skill levels will enjoy this trail. As with all of our rides, this is a self-directed experience. You'll ride at your own pace. We'll stop periodically to let slower riders catch up. You are welcome to do all or a portion of the ride.

Feel free to stop anywhere along the way for a snack or lunch. Consider having lunch and buying fresh Amish and other farm wares at the Barns at New Market, 13.5 miles into the ride. There is a catwalk off the trail leading directly to the market. It is marked on the route map, but it is easy to miss.

Other potential sites of interest along the way include the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home (https://charhall.org/) 13.1 miles on the return. Also see historical markers for the Charlotte Hall School (https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=81186) and the now defunct Ye Coole Springs, reputed to be the site of the first hospital in Maryland. (https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=135329) The spring site is located across the road from the trail at approximately 13.5 miles on the return.

Please charge your battery, pump your tires, check your brakes, and consider packing a spare tire tube. Bring water, snacks, and a go-bag to carry any purchases from the market.

While this is a straight out-and-back ride with minimal required navigation, consider downloading the Ride with GPS route map.
