WHAT IS ELECTRO DANCE?
Electro dance was born in the early 2000s at the club Metropolis in Paris. It is a primarily arm based style that incorporates elements of hip-hop, vogue, glowsticking, disco, and popping into a cohesive high energy flow.

WHAT IS TECKTONIK
Electro is incorrectly known as Tecktonik outside of the dance community. "Tecktonik Killer" was originally the name of the parties at Metropolis. When it exploded in popularity, the founders trademarked the name and turned it into a commercial brand. The dance community pushed back and kept calling it what it always was: Electro. Tecktonik was the brand. Electro is the dance. But Tecktonik gave it a voice and popularity that pushed it viral.

Tecktonik subculture quickly became a major trend thanks to the internet and forums, spreading from Parisian club scenes to a mainstream audience. Here are examples of viral videos that helped popularize the dance.

The mainstream moved on from Tecktonik and dismissed it as a fad due to over commercialization, but Electro dance continued to grow.
Here is a video that shows the modern form of Electro in a dance battle.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC?
As the name implies it is typically danced to Electro, Electro House, Electro Clash, etc. It also goes great with Techno, Bass House, Trance, House, and other "4 on the floor" EDM genres. Beyond that the style is flexible enough to be used with any genre of dance music including Hip Hop, Bass, Dnb, Disco, and anything else your heart desires!

WHERE IS ELECTRO POPULAR?
There are now highly developed scenes in France of course, but also in Italy, Russia, Japan, Canada, and Mexico. However, in the United States it is not very popular. You mostly see shuffling as the main EDM dance at festivals and raves in the US. Now you have the chance to be part of the growing underground movement of Electro dancers in the US!

WHY SHOULD I TRY ELECTRO?
If you're tired of going out to EDM music events and standing still this is a great way to express the music. It is great exercise and a cardio workout due to its HIIT like pacing. Maybe you tried shuffling and it wasn't your thing. Or you're looking for a party, dance class, community, and workout all in one while going to sleep at a reasonable time. Or maybe you just want to spice up your boring gym and Zumba routine with something novel that actively expands your movement abilities. Whatever the reason Electro is worth a try!

IS THIS A CLASS? WILL THERE BE CHOREOGRAPHY?
Half the time will be instructional. The other half will be open session where you can practice your moves, socialize, and request individual instruction. Electro is primarily a freestyle dance, but to learn the foundations there will be a warm up, drills, drill variations, and short choreography. This is to help you not be too overwhelmed while also building your conditioning. Quality over quantity!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
It is donation based. Give what you can to show your appreciation. No pressure if you are not financially able to.

WHAT ARE THE STUDIO RULES?
Bring your own water bottle if you can. There is filtered water available at both studios. No outdoor shoes in the dance studio. You are allowed to wear clean indoor only non-marking shoes.

Respect the space and each other. No smoking, vaping, alcohol, or strong scents in the studio. For any complaints, concerns, or feedback talk immediately to the instructor.

Please DM @seattleelectro on Instagram for details on how to access the studios. Late arrivals must message us to be let in because the doors at both studios auto lock from the outside.
