The Friends of Elk Island Society are having their Annual General Meeting on June 1st, 2025, at the Astotin Theatre in Elk Island National Park. The meeting will start at 2:00 PM. Snacks and drinks will be provided, as well as door prizes. Regular Park fees apply.
We have the pleasure of having Ramona Maraj giving the Park update and doing a presentation on black bears. Ramona Maraj is an Ecologist Team Lead with Elk Island National Park. She has been with Elk Island and Parks Canada for seven years. Prior to joining the team at Elk Island, Ramona was the Carnivore Biologist for Yukon Government for 15 years. She completed her doctorate through the University of Calgary, focusing on grizzly bear ecology in Kluane National Park Reserve. She has worked on all three North American species of bears, with work ranging from the Arctic, through the boreal forests, temperate rainforests, and now aspen parkland. She has over 30 years of experience working on bears, and has helped to bear manage populations in Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
