Tour of Union Cemetery (Historic Calgary) - Remembrance Day 2011

Details
Calgary's history is a walk in the park! Many pioneers lie buried in Calgary's oldest civic burial ground. Travel back in time to discover the stories behind the name etched in stone, such as Macleod, Cross and Pearce.
This Remembrance Day special tour will run from 2:00 to about 3:30.
It's a Friday, and many have the day off work (Jennifer will be hosting the DSN group this day - but the tours are given by volunteers at the City!)
No two tours are the same, as each volunteer guide has their own favourites. Managed by the City, with volunteers running the tours. This special Nov 11 tour will likely cover both the Union and Burnsland Cemeteries (the 2 halves of this large block).
More information about this special REMEMBRANCE DAY tour will be added as it becomes available - the city website is found here - http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Parks/Pages/Cemeteries/Cemetery-tours.aspx .
The tour will focus on the contribution of Calgary regiments to the great battles of the Boer War, World War I and World War II.
The tour is free. Bring a loonie for the DSN $1 fee (payable to Jennifer), and something for a drink or snack afterwards!
We'll plan to go to the Good Earth Cafe at 1502 11th St SW after the tour to warm up with coffee, cocoa or whatever tickles your gills.Note: as the tours vary in length, and the group dynamic may change during the walking, we may decide to go elsewhere - so if you plan to catch up at the Good Earth, be aware that plans could change at the last minute...
Meet at the GALLOWAY HOUSE, on the EAST SIDE of UNION Cemetery.
Spiller Road SE for parking; this HOUSE is the only building on the 'north' side of the road, just south of Cemetery Road SE.
**NOTE - Burnsland Cemetery is the South-East half of this cemetery property; Union Cemetery is the North-West half, which faces Erlton-Stampede Station on Macleod Trail .
