🥾 **Hike Description**
Our adventure begins in **Lewes**, a historic Sussex market town dating back to the 6th century and famed for its castle and bonfire traditions. Leaving town, we cross the **River Ouse** and its broad valley before climbing into the heart of the **South Downs National Park**, Britain’s newest National Park.
For much of the day we hike high up on the **chalk ridges and rolling hills** of the Downs, rewarded with panoramic views that stretch inland and out to the English Channel. We pass through **glacial dry valleys** and across open downs, with long stretches where the sea draws ever nearer. Approaching the coast, our path reveals **distant vistas of the legendary Seven Sisters cliffs**, gleaming white in the sunlight.
The hike concludes in **Seaford**, a small coastal town steeped in history. Here we find the **Martello Tower**, built in 1810 as part of a chain of 103 towers to guard against French invasion during the Napoleonic Wars. Finishing right by the beach, this is a spectacular end to one of our toughest South Downs challenges.
**Toughness:**
At **30km with multiple steep climbs** and a brisk pace, this is one of our longest day hikes from London. It is only suitable for experienced and very fit hikers. There is little if any time for a pub stop at the end, and if you are unable to keep up or complete the hike, you will need to leave and arrange a taxi at your own expense.

Day trip by train - visit historic Hertford!
Come along on Saturday 18th April to visit the historic town of Hertford!
**About Hertford**
Hertford is the county town of Hertfordshire. Its only 20 miles north of central London and only has a population of 30,000.
The town grew up on a ford on the River Lea in 913AD where the Rivers Rib, Beane and Mimram join the Lea. Its name comes from the Old English word '*Herut*', meaning a fully mature stag; thus the meaning of the name is a ford where stags are found.
The town has a castle (now just a gatehouse remaining) built by the Normans in the 11th century.
In 1563, Parliament met at the castle because of an outbreak of plague in London.
Its most famous resident was Samuel Stone, who was born here in 1602 and later emigrated to America. He was instrumental in developing the community he settled in into a city, renaming it Hartford (in the state of Connecticut today), after his birthplace.
From the 18th century onwards, the town prospered as a market town, with many warehouses and trade on the river.
The town has lots of medieval, Georgian and Victorian properties, along with a local museum.

Let's go to the Chiltern Hill and see one of the most stunning wild bluebell carpets in the country.
This is going to be one of the 2 days of bluebells trips this year!
The Ashridge Estate consists of 5,000 acres of woodland, chalk down lands and lush meadows and are home to some of the eldest trees in the country and I will take you to this absolutely gorgeous place in the woods, heathland and rolling hills.
You can walk for miles and see a variety of wildlife such as deer or red kites but the most important inhabitants of these landscapes are by far the magical creatures such as Malefiscent or who knows, a werewolf or even Buckbeak the Hippogriff from Harry Potter!
This place has been chosen as the filming location for so many movies that I cannot even tell you the whole of them! Harry Potter, Malefiscent,Robin Hood, Stardust or Gulliver travels but it is not surprising when you see the beauty of those woods.
So come and join me for a day out on my trails! You know you want to! Come on, you are not working and I will take you to a beautiful place that will not disappoint and that will help you to relax and get a breath of fresh air.
You will see bluebells, bluebells and even more bluebells until you get sick of it!Of course I cannot know how thick the carpet will be when we get there but we have some good chances to have some nice ones.
Take your camera, put up some nice clothes for your best insta profile of the year!

Clifftop Club: The 18-Mile Challenge: Folkstone - Deal 💪
We are taking on 18 miles along one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the UK. Think sea air, big open views, quiet chats as we walk, and that steady rhythm you only get on a long hike.
It is not just about the distance - it is about the experience.
The moments where the group spreads out, then comes back together.
The snack breaks that somehow taste better by the sea.
That feeling when your legs are tired, but your head feels clear.
**The plan:**
Distance: 18.5 miles
Difficulty: Hard
Time: 8–9 hrs
Train tickets: purchase off-peak return to Eastbourne with national rail card. OR wecq get a group ticketket on a day.
Sea views + cliffs + iconic Kent coastline
We will start in Deal and follow the coast towards the cliffs, moving at a steady, social pace. There will be time to pause, take it in, and enjoy it — no rush, no pressure, just a shared challenge.
By the end, you’ll have walked 18 miles, met some great people, and probably feel a little different than when you started (in a good way).

🥾 **Hike Description**
We set out into the **Chiltern Hills**, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, following a mix of beech woodland, chalk uplands, and ridge trails. Part of our route follows the ancient **Ridgeway Trail**, a 5,000-year-old trading path often called Britain’s oldest road. From these high points we enjoy sweeping views across the Vale of Aldbury and the rolling Chiltern countryside.
Midway we reach **Ivinghoe Beacon**, a striking hilltop once used for signalling beacons and now a superb viewpoint across the region. It has featured in TV classics like The Avengers and The Saint. From here, the **147m-long White Lion** chalk carving at Whipsnade can be seen across the valley, etched into the hillside and visible for miles.
The trail then continues through the **Ashridge Estate**, former seat of the Dukes of Bridgewater, where we pass the 33m **Bridgewater Monument** built in 1832. Finally, we descend into the unspoilt village of **Aldbury**, famed for its traditional cottages and “chocolate-box” charm, before rounding off the day with a visit to the village pub.

Hike Blacklick Woods and The Canopy. Optional lunch after.
Over time I'm hoping to organize a hike to all the Franklin County Metro Parks. This is the first one so if you're interested jump in!
We'll start with the Canopy Walk, a cool feature of this park. Climb 100 stairs to the top - or take the elevator if stairs aren't your thing. At the top there are a bunch of things to play on - a rope bridge, a fireman pole that we can slide down - and more! About fifteen minutes there and we'll head to the natural trail, Buttonbush, Maple and Beech Trail for 2.2 miles then do a 1.7 mile loop on the paved Greenway Trail. We'll be passing our cars as we transition if you only want to do the first loop, or the second loop. Pace of around 3.5 mph but no one left behind.
If there is an interest we can grab lunch nearby afterward.
