Crescendo Emo Night (Band Tributes)
Crescendo Emo Night (Band Tributes)
Hi All, I'm helping to put on a band night show at Crescendo Studio's in their Blackbox room. This is one of the first live band shows Crescendo has done since the pandemic. My band is playing this first one, but I'm hoping if people turnout and show interest, we can convince Crescendo to do more of these live band events with new bands and new themes each time (grunge night, 80's night, metal, tribute, originals, etc.). The Blackbox room can also host a mini bar now and there will likely be a food truck. For those unaware, the Blackbox room is a 300 standing capacity room with a full stage and sound engineer, that's twice the size of Jammin Java. If you practice at Crescendo, please let them or Beau Canlas (Crescendo's Events Person) you'd love to see more live music events! Friday Night Skate
Friday Night Skate
Bring your lights for the “Friday Night” Skate! **Join us for the Friday Night Skate!** See the monuments of DC all lit up at night! We will meet at the National World War I Memorial “Pershing Park” at 7pm. We’ll warm up with a nice easy skate to the Capital and skate along the mall and museums to the National Monument. We will then head to the Lincoln Memorial through the World War II Memorial. Those interested in just a 5.5 mile skate can backtrack to Pershing Park. The group will then proceed from the Lincoln to Haynes Point via Ohio Drive with the option to take the 3 mile loop (12 mile total skate) or sit by the water and enjoy the crisp air (8.5 mile total skate.) There are three options to loop back to the Pershing Park WWI Memorial and our path back will depend on the preferences / skill of the group. The skate is mostly flat on good pavement with a small slope coming down from the Washington Monument and a 40 yard small slop from the Lincoln to Ohio Drive. If skaters are more advanced we will cross the 14th St bridge, enjoy a few up and down hills and finish with a downhill through the 12th St. tunnel. Please feel free to jazz it up with lights, I wear a helmet bike light, a fun set of lights and lighted wheels! Wear your lights so you have fun, can see and be seen! In case of bad weather, I will cancel the skate by 6pm on this post. **Of course, all skating is at your own risk.**

DuPont Circle, Embassy Row, Ritziest DC Street, Woodley Park + Farmers Mkt
DuPont Circle, Embassy Row, Ritziest DC Street, Woodley Park + Farmers Mkt
Sunday should be dry after heavy rain on Saturday. Let's take advantage of the **better weather** to tromp in NW DC. We will start at DuPont Circle, walk up Massachusetts Ave. for a stretch on Embassy Row, circle back down Normanstone, the ritziest street in DC, pass through to Woodley Park, and return through the Kalorama District in Washington DC. We hike at a rate of 2 to 3 miles per hour. This hike starts with a climb up towards the Cathedral. We will pivot by the British Embassy and cut across a park. It is fairly level or downhill, with one or two exceptions, after that. Bonus Attraction: The **[Dupont Circle Farmers Market](https://www.freshfarm.org/markets/dupont-circle)**[ ](https://www.freshfarm.org/markets/dupont-circle)is open on Sundays until 1:30 pm. You can stop there pre-hike to pick up some of their superb treats. ❶ **What we’ll do:** * After starting at DuPont Circle, we'll walk northwest along Massachusetts Avenue, go up Embassy Row, cut across to Woodley Park, Creek Park, and return along Connecticut Avenue. Along the way we'll see the historic mansions, condominiums and rowhouses of the DuPont and Kalorama Districts, with examples of several different architectural styles. Today a lot of these buildings house embassies from around the world, so we'll see much of Embassy Row along the way. * The total walk is a clockwise loop of about 5 miles and should take 2 hours at a moderate pace. The surface is pavement and sidewalks throughout, with lots of changes in elevation. * Google map: [http://tinyurl.com/jux9v3v](http://tinyurl.com/jux9v3v) * Site photos/descriptions: [http://tinyurl.com/pdjgjvt](http://tinyurl.com/pdjgjvt) ❷ **How to get there:** The DuPont Circle Metro Station is on the Red Line. To get to the meetup point, exit the station towards DuPont Circle South and at the top of the escalator, proceed into the circle to the fountain. See [https://www.wmata.com/](https://www.wmata.com/) to plan your trip. If you are driving, there is free parallel parking around side streets nearby, but give yourself some time to find a spot! ❸ **What to bring:** Water, comfy shoes and your furry friend if desired (leashes required at all times). ❹ **Weather:** The forecast is cloudy and a high of 55F. Updates: [https://tinyurl.com/ych2tr5v](https://tinyurl.com/ych2tr5v) ❺ **Advisory:** As a reminder, this is an adult group, and you are ultimately responsible for your own safety and well-being during events. No one under 18 years of age is allowed at this event, either as members or as guests, to include babies in carriers and/or strollers. ❻ **Administrative stuff:** * There are restrooms in commercial establishments around DuPont Circle if you need to make a pit stop before and/or after the hike. There are also several commercial establishments along our route, but to avoid an unduly long hike, we will not take any scheduled breaks except at the Omni hotel near Woodley Park. * Woodley Park-Zoo Metro Station is near the two-thirds point of our walk if anyone needs to depart early or would like a shorter walk.
Introductory Clinic
Introductory Clinic
As a reminder, since Freedom Plaza is under construction, we will meet at the plaza in front of The International Trade Center near the National Children's Museum (on Pennsylvania Ave). We'll begin with going over a few drills (varies week to week). The skills we drill will be for the first 30 minutes. For the second half, we will casually skate down the bike lanes on Pennsylvania Avenue from the plaza to the U.S.Capitol and stop at 3rd St. and then skate back the same route. This route is about 2 miles in total and is perfect for those who are new to skating in the city but feel comfortable on skates in a parking lot or roller rink. This is also great if you wish to start with shorter routes to increase your physical fitness or stamina for some of the other routes. This is an excellent opportunity to prepare to skate with others on the road. You will also get to meet skaters who will arrive for the Intermediate and Advanced skate routes following the introductory skate. This is great training to feel prepared for the Tuesday Night and Friday Night Skate! Route: [http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=7653831](http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=7653831) Inline skates (rollerblades), roller skates (quads), bicycles, unicycles, skateboards, longboards and other similar modes of transportation are welcome to join. Helmet and pads are required. Skate at your own risk. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the session

We'll have a restroom break halfway through the hike. Bring plenty of water and some snacks, and be sure to wear sturdy, comfortable footwear. Brunch in ADMO after the hike is an option. **DISTANCE:** 5.3 miles **ELEVATION GAIN:** 800 feet - there will be hills! **PACE:** Our average moving pace will be between 2.5 and 3 miles per hour. **DOGS:** Dogs on a leash are welcome.
