About us
We are a small group of fit and energetic hikers age 60 and older.
With an emphasis on healthy living, this is a perfect opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts aged 60 and above to come together, connect, and enjoy the wonders of the natural world.
Our average speed is about 2 miles per hour (more or less depending on trail conditions and weather.) You must be physically fit to hike with us to keep up with the group. Hiking requires more energy, strength, and stamina than walking. If you are thinking about old people’s slow walks on paved and flat surfaces because we are seniors, I would not recommend to join this group because we are much more active than you think. We are brisk hikers. Please do not join if you are simply a walker. Or you might want to try out by joining a Shorter Hike during free trial period.
Below are the details for our three
weekly hikes at Friedrich Wilderness
Park in San Antonio:
1. Shorter Hike (3 miles): Smooth entry trails as well as rocky terrain and exposed tree roots, featuring a moderate, long slope.
2. Cardio Shorter Hike (3.5 miles): More elevation changes and some sections are steeper ascents and descents than the other Shorter Hike.
3. Slower Intermediate Hike (5.5 miles): All the terrain and elevation challenges described above over a longer distance.
For the time being, two other hikes - Intermediate Hike and Longer Hike - are suspended. We also occasionally hike at other local parks as well as nearby state parks. We hope to explore additional places in the future. All our hikes take place on weekdays in order to avoid crowds. We enjoy hiking without dogs.
Please read each hiking description before you decide to join to determine your physical fitness level. If you’re not sure of your fitness level, consider starting out with the Shorter Hike and moving up to other hikes as you feel comfortable.
