Private Guided Mission Trail Hike - The Mission Farmlands
Details
Please join us for the private guided educational walking tour. We will meet at 9:00am in the parking lot of Mission San Juan for walk through the farmlands of Mission San Juan and Mission Espada. We will start along one of the few stretches of original San Antonio River channel before following the San Juan Acequia (irrigation ditch) as it winds it’s ways through the San Juan Labores (farmlands). We’ll then cross over the San Antonio River at Mission Espada and return to Mission San Juan through the Espada Labores. On our return we’ll stop by the Espada Aqueduct.
We will walk through both missions as well as the farmlands. The stories are so intertwined that by walking through the mission and then the farmland you get a great perspective of the whole mission complex. The whole morning will be a guided tour. It will be about 4 miles.
While the trail is mostly level, it does have a concrete surface. It is also exposed to the sun so wear appropriate sun protection and bring water, and snacks if you like.
All missions are free admission. No park reservations are required
Optional: After the hike those who are interested can join us for lunch at a nearby taqueria.
NOTE: The host and our member Mark Tezel is a retired Mission Park Ranger and lead guide who has many years of experience. We are fortunate to have him in our group. His contact info is posted, in case you need to contact him, in Comment as a private message which is visible only for attendees.
