David Morgantini is an experienced engineering leader and coach who has spent the last 15+ years building, scaling, and repairing engineering organizations across startups, scale-ups, and enterprise-scale environments.

Over his career, David has worked with teams at very different stages of maturity, from early teams without formal progression to large organizations struggling with inconsistent expectations and unclear growth paths. That breadth of experience has given him a clear view of why career ladders so often fail engineering managers and the people they support.

David is also the founder of SkillsMap, a platform designed to help engineering leaders design and operate career frameworks as living systems rather than static documents. His work focuses on making growth expectations explicit, usable, and fair, for both managers and engineers.

In this talk, David shares a practical, experience-driven approach to how career ladders actually work and how engineering leaders can use them to meaningfully support growth in their teams.
