Set near the end of Pinochet’s rule, Pedro Lemebel’s My Tender Matador follows the unlikely relationship between a flamboyant, middle-aged queer sex worker known as the Queen of the Corner and a young revolutionary. Set against the backdrop of dictatorship, the novel weaves together desire, resistance, and the lives of those pushed to the margins of society.
