Poetry Salon: What is Poetry?

Poetry Salon: Read, Listen, Discuss
Join us for our next English Theatre Valencia Literature Salon — this time, we’re turning from story to verse.
We’ll explore three short, striking poems that ask what poetry is and does:
Billy Collins’ “Introduction to Poetry,” Archibald MacLeish’s “Ars Poetica,” and Elizabeth Bishop’s “One Art.”
Through shared readings and open discussion, we’ll trace how each poet redefines meaning, emotion, and art itself.
📖 How it works:
- Texts are provided in advance and at the event.
- You can read them beforehand or discover them fresh as we read aloud together.
- Afterwards, we’ll open the floor for relaxed discussion — no analysis pressure, just curiosity and connection.
Whether you’re a native speaker or an English learner, this is a space to enjoy literature without the long-term commitment of a book club. Poetry offers small moments of language that open up big ideas — come see how much depth can fit into just a few lines.
☕️ Hosted once again at Bruno’s Lucky 13, our cozy café home for thoughtful afternoons with great food and company.
