Let´s be greek celebrating today the 8th of MARCH - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN´S DAY and imagine…
HOW WOULD THE WORLD LOOK IF 9 OF THE 10 MOST POWERFUL POSITIONS IN THE WORLD WERE HELD BY WOMEN ?
Currently, evidently, its exactly the opposite.
From the 10 most powerful positions in the world, 1 is held by a woman, Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, accounting for 50% of the World´s population. We had to wait until 1960 for Sirimavo Bandaranaike to become the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka:
the first woman in modern history to lead a national government.
So... what would be different if women would hold the power positions. Would things be different in any meaningful way. And if yes... why?
In the greek tragedy by Aristophanes "Lysistrata", women from several Greek city-states refuse have sexual relations with their husbands until the men agree to end the war between Athens and Sparta.
And in Ecclesiazusae (translated as The Assemblywomen or Women in Parliament) also by Aristophanes, women take over political power and rule the city introducing radical reforms:
Common ownership of property, shared wealth, collective child-rearing and regulation of sexual relations to ensure fairness
So, the greek perspective is that women would be more peaceful and with quite progressive tendencies, softly speaking.
Can we still hold that view or is Aristophanes outdated?
So, lets think about our world and how it would look like if women would rule it...
