As the covid situation is still at large, we are mainly holding outdoor events and sometimes online ones
No age limit. Young and old are welcome to all events.
Since we probably have a bigger community outside of Meetup, you'll definitely meet new Japanese people you've never met on other groups

# 🎃💀 Halloween × Día de Muertos
## Mexican Cooking Party 🇲🇽🌼
October 31st is Halloween 🎃
And November 2nd is Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) in Mexico 💀🌼
Both traditions are connected to remembering and honoring people who have passed away, so in some ways, Día de Muertos is a little similar to the Japanese Obon tradition.
Many people around the world became familiar with Día de Muertos through the Disney/Pixar movie Coco (Remember Me).
This time, instead of having a typical Halloween party, we're going to explore the food and culture of Día de Muertos through Mexican cooking! 🇲🇽🍽️
Halloween in the US is famous for costumes, candy, and parties, but there isn't really one particular traditional Halloween dish.
Mexico's Día de Muertos, on the other hand, has a fascinating food culture and many traditional dishes.
So why not celebrate Halloween this year by making some authentic Mexican-inspired dishes together?
🎃 Halloween costumes are very welcome!
Come in costume if you'd like, but costumes are absolutely not required.

## 🍽️ What We'll Make
### ① Tamales 🌽
Tamales are one of Mexico's most famous traditional foods and even appear in the movie Coco.
Tamales are made by wrapping corn dough and various fillings, then steaming them inside corn husks or other wrappers.
They have an incredibly long history and are believed to have been eaten in Mesoamerica thousands of years ago.
The name comes from tamalli, a word from Nahuatl meaning something like "wrapped thing."
Tamales were originally useful as portable food for hunters, travelers, and soldiers. Over time, they became popular with people throughout Mexico.
Today, you can find countless varieties, from savory and spicy versions to sweet tamales.
We'll have fun making and wrapping our own tamales together before enjoying them fresh from the steamer! 🌽
### ② Roast Chicken with Mole Sauce 🍗
Our second dish will feature Mole, one of Mexico's most iconic sauces.
Mole is made by combining ingredients such as chili peppers, spices, nuts, and even chocolate, creating a rich and complex flavor.
If you're thinking,
"Chocolate and chili together?" 😲
Don't worry — this isn't a sweet chocolate sauce!
Mole has a deep, savory, spicy, and aromatic flavor that is completely different from ordinary chocolate sauce.
We'll pair the mole sauce with roast chicken for a delicious Mexican-style main dish. 🇲🇽🍗

## メキシコの「死者の日」料理を楽しむクッキングパーティー 🇲🇽
10月31日はハロウィン🎃
そして11月2日は、メキシコの伝統的な祝祭 「死者の日（Día de Muertos）」 💀🌼
どちらも、先祖や亡くなった人たちを想いながら過ごすという意味では、日本のお盆にも少し似ています。
メキシコの「死者の日」といえば、映画 『リメンバー・ミー（Coco）』 を思い浮かべる方も多いのではないでしょうか？
今回は、そんな「死者の日」にちなんで、メキシコの伝統料理に挑戦するクッキングイベントを開催します！
アメリカのハロウィンは仮装が中心で、ハロウィンならではの伝統料理は意外と少ない一方、メキシコの「死者の日」には、この時期ならではの興味深い食文化があります。
今回はその中から、メキシコを代表する料理 タマーレス と モーレソースのチキン をみんなで作ってみましょう！🇲🇽🍽️

仮装して料理を楽しむのもOKです。もちろん普段着での参加も大歓迎です！

## 🍽️ 今回のメニュー
### ① タマーレス（Tamales）
映画『リメンバー・ミー』にも登場する、メキシコを代表する伝統料理です。
タマーレスは、トウモロコシの生地に具材を包み、とうもろこしの皮などで包んで蒸して作ります。
その歴史は非常に古く、紀元前5000～8000年頃から食べられていたともいわれています。
名前の由来は、メキシコの先住民言語の一つであるナワトル語の「タマーリ」で、「包んだもの」という意味。
もともとは狩人や軍人などが持ち運ぶ携帯食として利用されていましたが、やがて一般の人々にも広まり、現在ではメキシコ各地で親しまれています。
甘いタイプから辛いタイプまで、地域によってさまざまなバリエーションがあるのも面白いところです！
今回は、みんなで実際に包んで蒸して、出来たてのタマーレスを楽しみましょう🌽
### ② ローストチキン × モーレソース
もう一品は、メキシコ料理を代表する モーレ（Mole） を使ったチキン料理。
モーレは、唐辛子やスパイス、ナッツ、そしてなんとチョコレートなどを組み合わせて作る、メキシコならではの伝統的なソースです。
「チョコレート＋唐辛子＋スパイスってどんな味？」
と思う方もいるかもしれませんが、甘いチョコレートソースとは全く違う、複雑で香り豊かな味わいです。
今回はローストチキンと合わせて、メキシコらしい一皿に仕上げます🍗🇲🇽
