We have all heard the phrase unconscious bias, and in theory we all know what it means, it is discrimination of sorts, and often unintentional. But is there more to it than that? By understanding how unconscious bias occurs, how insidious it can be, and how to spot it, we can start to take steps to tackle it. -------------
Women in tech face blatant bias, which is difficult enough to tackle but with unconscious bias it can be less overt and seem more intangible.
During our session we will explore some of the main types of unconscious bias (over 150 different types have already been identified), identify some of the more tricky ones in the Tech industry and come up with some tactics to tackle it on a personal basis.
In addition, we will look at the way organisations can mitigate unconscious bias and create inclusive places to work, which will enable you to sense check how well your organisation is working towards removing bias.

I am a working mother, based in South Wales, leading a remote team that is located across three sites and a much wider Associate Team spread across the UK. My mission is to help individuals, teams and organisations grow by learning and developing themselves and challenging them to do better and be better.
Through Bray Leino Learning, I help organisations create innovative blended learning experiences that take learning out of classrooms and into the flow of work - because learning is work and work is learning. We have worked with many organisations to help them understand how unconscious bias might be impacting their talent processes and have designed and delivered innovative learning solutions to equip managers with the knowledge and skills they need to combat bias in the workplace. I have a particular interest in helping more women achieve board positions, and more generally to help everyone be the best version of themselves. As a new Huffington post blogger, regular webinar host and frequent speaker, I like to challenge the status quo and question the unquestionable.
I champion fairness, equality and inclusion and I want to help people understand how they can be great role models themselves. I help organisations build robust policies and processes and also design and deliver engaging learning opportunities in order to eliminate bad practice.
