Vendor focus: Amazon CloudSearch

Join us on May 16 for a special vendor focus meetup held in conjunction with Amazon CloudSearch. The event will take place at the Hand & Flower pub near Kensington Olympia, with drinks and light food starting from 5:30pm, and talks beginning at 6:30pm. The agenda for the evening will be:

  • CloudSearch Technical Summary by Jon Handler, Solution Architect at Amazon CloudSearch — This talk will cover how to design, build, and deploy a cloud-based search solution, and tune it for best results. You will also learn about the CloudSearch architecture and how it fits with other AWS services.
  • User Talk — NakedWines.com
  • Better Search For Wikipedia Using CloudSearch - Iain Fletcher, VP of Marketing at Search Technologies
  • Building a Search UI for CloudSearch by Stefan Olafsson, Cofounder of Twigkit — Stefan will demonstrate how to rapidly build a full-featured search application leveraging CloudSearch and DynamoDB (AWS's NoSQL database service), and deploy it on Elastic Beanstalk.

Quite interesting to see how CloudSearch works and how it is being used. Betting that Stefan can get down to 4 minutes next time...

Very insightful. Thanks ro Amazon team for hospitality. Only minor complaint was some presentations were too marketing focussed for the tech heavy audience.

Looking forward to hearing about the strengths, but even more, the weaknesses. We love what AWS lets us do, but don't use the packaged solutions as much.

Looking forward to meeting Mike Bohlig, who I have talked to many times over the past couple of years...
