What we're about
Upcoming events (1)
Use Cases and User Stories are two of the most popular practices with agile teams. They both take a user perspective when looking at the requirements and they both work as test items. They have both inspired one another and over the years they've evolved to now be closer than ever.
We're thrilled to host a very special guest who has contributed much to the agile community - Mike Cohn! He has played a seminal role in creating and developing the user story idea.
In the panel discussion with Mike will be:
- Ian Spence, who has worked with Dr. Ivar Jacobson, the creator of use-cases, for more than 15 years and developed the use case idea to be a perfect practice for SAFe
- Bernie Clark, who has much experience in successfully applying use cases with user stories in big banks
With such an incredible lineup this event promises to be insightful, constructive and fun - perhaps with a few surprises!

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Mike Cohn is the author of three of best-selling books on agile (User Stories Applied for Agile Software Development, Agile Estimating and Planning, and Succeeding with Agile). As the founder of Mountain Goat Software, Mike specializes in helping companies adopt and improve their use of agile processes and techniques in order to build extremely high-performance development organizations. He can be reached at [masked].
Bernie Clark has over 40 years’ experience in the Information Technology industry, gained mostly in the USA and UK. He is an experienced Transformation Coach, Trainer and Scrum Master, with an extensive programming, design, development and methodology background. He first applied Use Cases and UML in the mid 90’s as part of his implementation of the Rational Unified Process at a major brokerage. Although not a defender of complex, multi-page Use Cases nor Big Up Front Requirements, Bernie believes that the organizing principles and logical structure of Use Cases still provide value in a world of User Stories, Journeys and Story Maps and Behavior Driven Development in general. Bernie lives in Nevada where, in his spare time, he enjoys novel writing, golf, photography, astronomy and is itching to get back to traveling the world as Covid abates.
Ian Spence has helped literally 100s of organizations in their agile transformations providing leadership, training, consultancy, facilitation and all levels of coaching. An experienced agile coach, consultant, team leader, analyst, architect, and scrum master, Ian has practical experience of the full project lifecycle and a proven track record of delivery within the highly competitive and challenging IT Solutions environment. His customers include organizations as diverse as the Square Kilometer Array, Deutsche Bank, Microsoft, Sony Interactive Entertainments, Ericsson, Google and the UK Government.
