Friday AM ethics: What's in a name? From Armistice Day to Veterans Day
Details
What does a name matter? November 11 has been called Veterans Day in the US since 1954. It is called Remembrance Day in (British) Commonwealth Countries. Does the name of a holiday matter? If Memorial Day is the official day honoring Veterans (according to Wikipedia) then what is Veteran's Day on November 11 about? Is it the day to remember the armistice ending what we call World War 1 on November 11 at the 11th hour? Is it a day of to think of peace or a second holiday to remember those who fought wars? Does it make a difference?
What we focus on matters. How does the name of the November 11 holiday matter to you? Does it matter at all?
