Who Gets to Tell the Story?
Details
October 12 is increasingly observed as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a time to honor the resilience, wisdom, and living cultures of Native communities. Yet for centuries, the dominant narrative erased these voices, replacing them with myths of “discovery” and conquest. In this Platform, Louise Jett will explore the ethics of storytelling: who has been allowed to define our history, and how can Humanists practice narrative justice by amplifying truth, restoring silenced voices, and carrying forward stories that honor human dignity?
Our speaker, Louise Jett (she/her), is an Ethical Humanist, educator, and storyteller who strives to bring curiosity and compassion to everything she does. An American Ethical Union certified Leader, she finds inspiration in people who dedicate themselves to empowering and caring for others. She loves connecting with people and having fun. So, please be sure to say hello during her visit.
