Events at Cafe Bohemia

The Cafe Bohemia Writers' Group meets every Wednesday night from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. We meet at Cafe Bohemia at 2320 Los Rios Blvd, Suite 105 in Plano, Texas. Cafe Bohemia is located at the NE corner of Los Rios and Park in the strip center behind the CVS.

If you have a story to tell, a poem to recite, or "spoken word" to be heard, this is the group for you. Each week you will hear and share new stories, poems and creative pieces from writers, poets, artists, comedians and others like yourself.

The "rules" are simple. [1] Keep to the time limit (5 minutes), [2] share something (that you wrote) each week, [3] be respectful of one another's time and opinions (We encourage you to actually "listen" to the works of everyone and not distract yourself with whatever you have to share! You will get so much more out of the group!), [4] stick with language (Keep it "PG"), and [5] pretty much any topic is acceptable. Though, we do ask that if your content is highly "adult" or sensitive (such as extreme violence, rape or child abuse, etc.), please give a bit of a "heads-up" in case someone wants to step out.

Please note, this is a relaxed, open-minded and diverse creative forum. It is not, however, a platform to promote your religious or political views, or to sell your products or services, no matter how amazing or important they may be.

Our group is a great place to present your work without fear of judgment or critique. This is definitely not one of those writers' groups that requires feedback and encourages other members to rip your writing apart. Our group is more about having fun with your creativity and sharing in one another's unique writing perspectives. If you would like an opinion on what you present, the members will be happy to give it, but critique will only be given if solicited. (Note: If you want more intensive "critiquing" from members whose opinions you respect, we encourage you to chat at the end of the meeting, after everyone has had the opportunity to share their work.)

Whether you're an experienced or a novice songwriter, this group is for you! Whether you're a prolific songwriter looking to stir things up a bit, you have full-on writer's block, or you've just dabbled a bit in the idea of writing songs, join us for an afternoon of creative thinking, discussion, writing and jamming. Our group tends to run a bit relaxed, without a lot of forced structure, but it works for us. Come see what we're all about, and draw your own conclusions.

Most meetups are co-hosted by a visiting songwriter mentor in which they share several of their songs and discuss their personal writing processes and perspectives, as well as field questions by the participants. We have had mentors aging in range from 11-years-old to as old as dirt! The idea is to offer a wide array of insights and perspectives. If you or someone you know is interested in contributing in this way, please let us know.

So far, we do not charge for these events. However, we do ask that you come hungry/thirsty and plan on buying a little something to support the venue that supports us. Most people spend about $5-10.

Join us every 2nd Saturday of the month from noon til 3pm. Bring your guitar, your writing utensils of choice, and if you have 'em, any song(s) you're working on. You won't be disappointed!
