Do I need coaching? What can coaching give me?
A common conception that has somehow achieved “truth” status is that coaching is for those who are, in a way, inadequate, weak or not self-reliant, even though this doesn’t seem so “true” when one looks carefully at the profile of individuals who use coaching, what coaching is good for and the benefits of coaching.
The world’s most successful leaders use coaching to make progress toward their goals several times faster than would be possible without a coach. Also, coaching can unblock issues that have been stuck for years.
Simply put, those who work with a coach achieve more and progress faster than those who don’t.
What is coaching? What is the goal of coaching?
The goal is to develop patterns of thinking and acting that demonstrably move the client toward the outcomes and goals (s)he desires. The bottom line of coaching is behavioural.
Coaching involves neither instructions nor giving advice nor evaluation of the client.
Instead, it consists of:
- Building a non-judgmental, open and supportive relationship.
- Exploring the client’s goals, situation, current thinking and acting in depth by asking questions.
- Identifying and removing the internal barriers to change, which gives rise to an unexpected natural ability to learn and adapt without the need for much input from the coach.
- Helping the client achieve the goals and outcomes (s)he desires by developing new ways of thinking and acting. This is done by asking questions and engaging in short exercises.
What can I offer that other coaches can’t?
All coaching methods are based on talking (more or less) but they lack a scientific theory of this very phenomenon (talking). Coaching needs a theory of human language and thinking based on experimental research!
Relational Frame Theory (RFT) is such a theory: it’s a lab and field-tested scientific explanation of how the human mind works.
Unlike many theories out there, RFT tells practitioners what language and thinking are, how they come to be, what their benefits and weaknesses are, and how they can be modified to better serve the interests of our clients.
This knowledge can then be applied to many types of problems that make people seek help and therefore can help provide tools in working for change.
I have extensive training in RFT and base all my coaching on it. The benefit is that my clients see unprecedented results when we start to work together:
- They progress several times faster than they did before.
- They unblock issues in just a few sessions that have been stuck for years.
- They implement changes they couldn’t before.
Try it out yourself.

Disclaimer
I endevour to provide the best service possible within the time limitations we have.
It's possible to make progress with almost all issues and most issues can significantly benefit from a session like this. However, some issues will not budge, they require more time and work.
This session is not a substitution for ongoing 121 leadership coaching.
