Let's enjoy a Lieder Nachmittag!

Details
The Excelsior German Center invites you to an afternoon of music. "Lieder" in English means "songs" but in German it is a genre of romantic classical music for piano and voice, sometimes referred to as "Kunstlieder" in contrast to "Volkslieder". Composers chose German poetry of the classical period, such as Goethe, but primarily they were drawn to poetry of the Romantic period, Heinrich Heine being one of their favorites. Some pieces are dramatic ballads, such as Schubert's "Der Erlkönig", a poem by Goethe; others are lyrical, inspired by nature, many deal with love and yearning, others, very moving and profound as poems, are given even more depth and emotion by music. Our "Lieder Nachmittag" will include a little bit of everything. You will not be disappointed.
Come listen to Eugene Brancoveanu, Kindra Scharich and Keisuke Nakagoshi perform in the beautiful Community Room at The Altenheim Sunday April 2, 2017 at 2pm.
Tickets are $15 General Admission. Enter the gates at 1720 MacArthur Blvd. or 1699 Excelsior Avenue, Oakland, CA (Gate #3).
