exJW Peer Support Group

Each peer support group session will run for 2 hours and have no more than 10 participants.

The group will be ran by a facilitator who will:

• Run introductions at the beginning of each session
• Provide a quick overview of the guiding principles
• Ensures the guiding principles are respected and that the space stays safe
• Time shares so that everyone has a chance to speak

Those joining are by no means obligated to share. This can be done on your own time and on your own terms as you feel comfortable.

In order to ensure the safety of the group the following principles must be respected:

• Confidentiality – we have all been harmed by the invasion of our privacy and know what it feels like to have information we shared or that was collected being used against us. Nothing said inside the group leaves the group.
• All Feelings And Persons Are Welcome – Some may be sad and experience feelings of love and longing for their lost friends and family. Others may be angry and experience feelings of hate and rejection. No feelings are better or more acceptable than others. No person is better or more acceptable than another. Individuality is celebrated.
• All Beliefs Are Welcome – This group’s purpose is not to share what we now believe, but one of its intentions is to share how we cope in the hopes of helping each other. Our beliefs therefore may come up when we share. We do not impose our beliefs on others nor do we judge others for their beliefs.
• Honour and Respect – We do not interrupt each other, speak over one another, offer unsolicited advice, or exhibit any other dismissing behaviours.
