Aug 29-Sep 2 2025 Kayaking in the San Juan Islands

This will be our fourth foray doing 4+ day kayak camping trips in the San Juan islands. This time (2025) we will leave out of the North side of Eastsound on Orcas Island (the Sucia Island side). Depending on who and how many sign up, we may stay as one group, or we may split into two. The group(s) will decide the exact route(s) depending on experience level and interests.

The details:

• Only people we know well. This has the potential to be a serious adventure if anything was to go wrong, so this isn't the right adventure for people we haven't met and adventured with. Please adventure with us on 'routine' trips before you RSVP to this trip.
• We leave Portland Thursday night (the 28th), take the ferry to Orcas Island, and spend the night so we are ready to go Friday morning.
• Be prepared to walk away from the trip (and your deposit) if the weather is not good.
• The focus on kayak trips is eating well. It is community cooking.
• Each person renting tandems paid about $150 total for four days (2024).
• Ferry tickets and other shared costs will run about $100 so budget $250 for the trip, knowing that 2025 prices could be above 2024 prices.
• Each group is limited to 8-10 people max. If we don't have enough experienced people sign up we won't split into multiple groups and that could limit participation if over 8-10 qualified folks sign up.
• It is possible one group enters Canada, so have a passport if that interests you.

Be prepared to walk away and forfeit your rental deposit if the weather isn't cooperating. Only RSVP if you have done both 'routine' and serious adventure trips with us and we know you well.

All in all this is a sweet deal, on our 2023 trip we ran into an REI group. Those folks paid $1100 for a three day trip and I guarantee they didn't have half the fun we did.

Prior to going we will have a mandatory self rescue practice day and several smaller kayak adventures before the big day.

• Most events are organized via Facebook Messenger. We don't care if you use Facebook but for most trips (including all overnight trips) you need Messenger to participate. If there is a Messenger chat for a trip, being added to the Messenger chat is the actual go list.
