What we’re about
On the surface we appear to be a hiking/backpacking group. We aren’t. We are a friend group that often hikes and backpacks as a way to spend time with each other.

See all- 2025 Vancouver Island West Coast TrailWest Coast Trail, British Columbia, BC
In 2024 Pearl and I had the Grand Canyon as our biggest adventure of the year. We don't know all the big adventures we will have in 2025 but one of them will be doing the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island.
At only 47 miles it might be easy to underestimate the difficulty but we will be timing tides, wading rivers, climbing long and steep ladders, using cable cars, following an irregular trail, and negotiating steep slopes and earth slumps. I expect 6 days on trail. The dates will not be locked down until we have permits and we won't put this trip too close to our Banff trip.
The permits and park fees will bring the cost of this adventure to about $300, and of course you need a passport to enter Canada
*** Permits are in hand and the dates are locked ***
We organize on Facebook/Facebook messenger, so you do not need to use Facebook, but you must be able to use Messenger. When you join a chat for an event, you will understand why.
YOU ARE NOT ACTUALLY ON THE "GOING" LIST UNTIL WE ADD YOU TO THE FACEBOOK CHAT!
Rules and expectations you should know:
- What are we here for?
- Events Refund Policy
- RSVP Courtesy - by attending a day hike you certify you agree with it
- Backpacking Trek Expectations - by attending a backpack you certify you agree with them
- Day Hike Expectations - by attending you certify you agree with them
- Most events are organized via Facebook Messenger. We don't care if you use Facebook but for most trips (including all overnight trips) you need Messenger to participate. If there is a Messenger chat for a trip, being added to the Messenger chat is the actual go list.
- Many of our trips use a waitlist. Please add yourself to it. Here are the best way to get to the go list!
- October 11-12 Tatoosh Ridge (Mt Rainier) fall colors backpackNeeds location
Tatoosh Ridge of Mt. Rainier has great fall colors and Jess is going to lead us to the promised land! Either come up the night before and camp, or meet at the “Tatoosh Trail 161” trailhead at 10am.
It is five-six miles in, 3900 feet of elevation. Then back out the same way the next day. It is outside of the national park so no park pass is needed.

- "Hut to Hut" campout weekendLower Sno-Park South Mount Tahoma Trails, Ashford, WA
Time to do our annual "Hut to Hut" adventure right at our "front yards"! We went to the High Hut in Oct 2023 and were treated with the best sunset view of Mt Rainier as the cover picture. There was a thick blanket of cloud covering the entire valley and the magnificent view of Mt Rainier above the cloud was unreal!
For this trip, we will stay at High Hut on Friday and the Yurt on Saturday. The hike to High Hut is 4 miles with 2400 feet of elevation gain from lower sno-park (Lower Sno-Park South Mount Tahoma Trails), then there'll another 4 miles or so from High Hut to the Yurt.
By late October, we may well be traversing on snow, so be prepared with microspikes and/or snowshoes. There are plenty of cookware, utensils, dishes, dish soap, toilet paper, cleaning supplies and sleeping mats, and the hut is heated with a propane fireplace, has solar lighting and a propane range/oven. You'll need to bring your own sleeping bag, sleeping pad (there'll be around 10 mattress in the house), pillow and food. Hut cost is $15 per person per night ($30 for two nights). I'll start collecting hut cost beginning of September.
I want you to go! Here are the best ways to get on the Go list!
We will organize with a Facebook messenger chat and participation in the chat is a must. If you need carpooling, generally folks get it arranged in the chat and we will have a Google Doc to capture key info and arrange car pool. You'll need access to the Messenger Chat to see the Google Doc. Suggested gas donation is $0.10 per mile per passenger, which will round up to be $30 per passenger.
