📍 Location: film theater Rialto VU.
🎥 Screening: Lebanese drama A Sad and Beautiful World on Sunday 7 June at 17:15.
🎬 A Sad and Beautiful World: After a minor incident involving a car, government adviser Yasmina walks into the little restaurant Chez Nino in Beirut. Whilst she is eating, her eye falls on an old school photo that the owner, Nino, has hung on the wall. She recognises the photo, as she attended that very same school. As soon as she meets Nino, she realises that he was her childhood sweetheart twenty years earlier. It soon becomes clear that the feelings from back then are still very much alive; sparks fly. But in unstable Lebanon, life is certainly not all sunshine and roses, and this has major consequences for their relationship.
Following several short films and documentaries, this is the first feature film by Lebanese director Cyril Aris, for which he wrote the screenplay himself, together with Bane Fakih. A Sad and Beautiful World depicts a world full of tragedy and uncertainty, but where humour, resilience and, above all, love prove to offer a lifeline. Starring Mounia Akl and Hasan Akil.

🎥 Screening: Resurrection on Sunday 21 June at 17:00.
🎬 Resurrection: The year is 2068: humanity has unlocked the secret to eternal life, but to do so, people have had to give up the ability to dream. However, there is a creature, a Delirant, who has never stopped dreaming, for it is precisely those dreams that offer him time and again the chance to experience something entirely new. A mysterious woman is searching for the creature. She intends to awaken the Delirant, because through his actions the boundary between dream and reality is beginning to blur. When she discovers that he is hiding in a silent film, she uses her gift to enter his dream. And so she follows him through several very different films.
In Buddhism, six senses are distinguished: sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch and mind. Each of the six parts of this imaginative and award-winning film by Chinese director Bi Gan corresponds to a sense. The result is a visually enchanting journey through film history, exploring the nature of reality and identity.
