At Expat Cinema: Meet up we screen recent foreign language films with English subtitles. Afterwards we get together to chat and network over a drink.
The meetings are at Rialto VU: a brand new innovative film theatre at the VU Campus. Our host Karolina will be there beforehand and afterwards to meet and greet and have a few drinks.
Tickets are €12, or you can use your Cineville-card, which makes it a bargain to boot. Tickets can be booked or reserved in advance.

🎬 THREE KILOMETRES TO THE END OF THE WORLD: Little usually happens in the Romanian village where 17-year-old Adi grows up. No surprise, since it is on an island in the Danube delta, three kilometres from the mainland. That calm is rudely disrupted when Adi is beaten up one evening. His father suspects it has something to do with an outstanding debt he owes, but it soon turns out there is something very different going on: Adi has been abused for kissing a man. The violence soon fades into the background, as people in the ultra-conservative village are much more concerned about the gay scandal surrounding Adi. All the notables agree: something has to be done about this; can't the boy be “cured”?

🎥 Screening: Brazilian drama BABY by Marcelo Caetano on Wednesday May 21st at 19:00.
🎬 BABY: When 18-year-old Wellington from São Paulo is released after two years of juvenile detention, he discovers he has nowhere to fall back on. His parents have moved away, without leaving their new address behind. And so he goes in search of his friends with whom he used to hang out in the park. They are still there and with those guys he goes to a gay porn theatre, where he meets the handsome forty-something Ronaldo. When the latter notices at the end of the evening that Wellington has no place to go, he takes him home. It is the beginning of a turbulent relationship, in which Ronaldo comes to play the roles of business partner, mentor and possessive lover in Wellington's life.
