Details

We're planning a fun and relaxed day out on Governors Island and we'd love for you to join us!

We'll meet at Yankee Pier (Buttermilk Channel) at 12:15 PM to kick things off. From there, we’ll keep the agenda flexible and let the day unfold naturally. There’s a lot happening on the island that day, so we’ll play it by ear and check out whatever sparks our interest.

Here are just a few of the events happening that day:

  • FAD Market
This curated pop-up market features local artists, makers, and small businesses offering everything from handcrafted jewelry and home goods to artwork and apothecary items. It’s a great chance to support independent creators and pick up something unique.
  • “You Are Welcome Too” Exhibition
Held at the historic Admiral’s House, this design-focused exhibit explores the theme of Black hospitality through furniture, textiles, and immersive installations. It's both a celebration and critique of how welcome is extended—and withheld—across cultures and histories.
  • Climate Creatives Workshop + Open Mic
This interactive event invites visitors to participate in eco-conscious art-making and performance. You can join in a hands-on creative workshop or just listen in as artists and activists take the mic to share work focused on climate, community, and imagination.
  • Midsummer Spark: An Afternoon of Activations
Hosted by Works on Water and Urban Soils, this event features participatory art, science demos, and installations designed to spark conversation about water, land, and urban ecosystems. Expect a mix of visual art, storytelling, and playful engagement.
  • From South Pole to North Pole
This immersive art experience links the Earth’s polar regions through storytelling, video, and installation art. It offers a powerful visual journey exploring environmental shifts and cultural connections across the globe’s most extreme latitudes.

There are also several food vendors and spots to grab lunch, snacks, or a cold drink—so you don’t need to bring food unless you want to.
We recommend sunscreen, sunglasses, and comfortable shoes, as we’ll likely be doing a fair amount of walking and most areas are exposed to the sun.
Come hang out, explore, and enjoy a summer day with good people and lots to discover!
