What we’re about
Explore your creative self! Get out of your head and into your hands (and heart)!
Creativity is important to mental and physical well-being. Join me as we discover your authentic self while sharing in fun with others in a supportive community through EXPRESSIVE ARTS (EXA). I will lead you in a series of creative processes that engage more than one art modality (movement/dance, drama, poetry, writing, visual art, nature observation, meditation, etc). We engage with acceptance, no judgement or analysis, and witness each other's creativity and how it affects our own. We create, connect and gain insight into our own self through others. Each workshop has its own focus, purpose, theme or intention. You will be led through dance, drama games, movement and music exercises, writing and journaling, and a visual art making project. Our final synthesis will be witnessed within dyads or the whole group where we can make connections and feel supported.
NO ARTISTIC TALENT OR TRAINING NEEDED! The mantra of EXA is "TRUST THE PROCESS." It is the process that will show you the way.
Here's a more formal explanation of EXA:
Expressive arts is a domain of alternative therapy that accesses an individual’s innate creative impulse for the purpose of healing through self-expression. Facilitators design and lead participants in a series of processes that engage more than one art form to develop mindfulness, interpersonal and intrapersonal awareness and to find joy in creation through community. Expressive arts have been documented to improve emotional and physical well-being. A typical expressive arts session might begin with movement or music, then morph into writing or poetry and develop into visual art. Sharing and witnessing the creative products in a community allows for processing and acceptance. Expressive arts are based on the tenets of “unconditional positive regard” as espoused by Carl and Natalie Rogers.
