More details: This may sting a little, but it's the truth. Ready? Your virtual life gets to live longer than your mortal life does. Your email accounts, Facebook posts, Web pages, digital storage accounts, iTunes music account and images that you have saved to Shutterfly remain accessible long after you can answer your texts. Similar to the care and planning that you spend on deciding who gets the keys to your house and your car after you die, should also be spent on who gets the keys to your social and digital kingdoms.

The methods for accessing digital assets after you pass on are complex.

The best solution is to make sure your heirs, executors and trustees have direct access to your accounts after you meet your end. Leaving it to the courts, complex laws, distributing death certificates, finding your actual accounts, and massive corporate bureaucracies is not going to be especially helpful to the ones you leave behind.

The Pittsboro Social Media & Internet Marketing Meetup is hosting a panel of experts to help you better understand what you need to do now to protect yourself, your family and your digital assets.
