Rise of the populist right...implications for Australia

Details
Speaker: Ben Wellings, Associate Professor in Politics and International Relations
Topic: Why are people in the USA and Europe turning in such large numbers to the populist right? Are there echoes in Australia? Is it all misinformation and prejudice, or are those Right parties recognising genuine issues not addressed by the Left? How does this tie in with populism and a loss of faith in western democracy?
Ben will join in a conversation with the Chair of the Victorian Fabians, Jeff McCracken-Hewson. Followed by audience Q&A.
Speaker: Ben Wellings' research and teaching focuses on all aspects of Brexit, contemporary EU politics and history, including English nationalism and Euroscepticism. He has published extensively on British politics and nationalism and is regularly sought for expert comment by Australian and British media.
