Giro d’Italia: Scannicchio’s Italian Restaurant
Details
🇮🇹 Welcome to Giro d’Italia! 🇮🇹
Get ready to eat, drink, and explore Italy—one Italian restaurant at a time!
I’m excited to introduce Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy), a new dinner series where each month we’ll gather around the table at a different Italian restaurant in the Philadelphia area. From classic Philly favorites to hidden gems and everything in between, we’ll be taking our own little culinary tour of Italy without ever leaving the area.
Our inaugural Giro d’Italia dinner takes us to Scannicchio’s Italian Restaurant, a longtime South Philly favorite. What better way to kick off our Italian culinary journey than with a classic Italian-American dinner, good conversation, and—of course—a couple of glasses of good wine?
So loosen your belt, bring your appetite and favorite bottle, as well as your enthusiasm for good food and good company, and join us for the first stop on our Giro d’Italia! Who knows where our culinary journey will take us next? 🇮🇹🍷
Why you should join us:
Join us for a fun evening of classic South Philly Italian dining at Scannicchio’s Italian Restaurant, a family-owned, longtime neighborhood favorite at Broad & Porter Streets. Scannicchio’s is known for its traditional Italian-American cooking, generous portions, and friendly, old-school South Philly atmosphere. (Scannicchio’s)
For our dinner, we’ll be enjoying Scannicchio’s Four-Course Prix Fixe Menu, which gives everyone a chance to enjoy a complete Italian dinner with several choices along the way.
First Course – Appetizer: Choose from Fried Calamari (Marinara or Sicilian Style), Asparagus Italiano, Mussels (Red, White, or Fra Diavolo), or Bruschetta.
Second Course – Salad: Choose Mista Salad or Caesar Salad.
Third Course – Main Entrée: Choose from Penne Vodka, Gnocchi Gorgonzola, Shrimp Fra Diavolo, Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Saltimbocca, Chicken Piccata, or Salmon Piccata.
Fourth Course – Dessert: Finish with Cannoli or Tiramisu.
And, of course, Scannicchio’s is a BYOB, so bring your favorite bottle and enjoy it with your dinner. More importantly, this is a chance to relax, enjoy some good Italian food, and spend an evening meeting and getting to know fellow Meetup members.
Details:
-
BYOB: Feel free to bring your favorite wine or other alcoholic beverage to complement your dinner. Please remember that while people are usually happy to share, it is inappropriate and inconsiderate to expect to drink multiple glasses of wine at someone else’s expense.
-
Cost: The Four-Course Prix Fixe Menu is $40 per person, excluding tax and gratuity. With 8% tax and a 20% tip, the total should be approximately $52–$55 per person. Please bring CASH to make bill-splitting easier and to avoid the restaurant’s credit-card surcharge. An ATM is available on-site, and credit-card payments are subject to a 4% bank fee.
-
Allergies/Dietary Restrictions: If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let me know as soon as you RSVP so I can inform the restaurant in advance. Because this is a fixed-price menu with no substitutions, please review the menu carefully and make sure there are suitable choices for you before joining us.
-
Important RSVP Information: If your plans change, please update your RSVP to “Not Going” as soon as possible so that someone on the waitlist has an opportunity to join us. I will send a message a day or two before the dinner asking everyone to confirm that they will be attending. This will allow me to finalize our headcount and make any necessary adjustments to our reservation.
-
Parking: Street parking and nearby parking garages are available. Nearby options include the Constitution Health Plaza parking garage (Broad and McKean Streets, with the entrance on McKean Street) and the Jefferson Methodist Hospital parking lot (Broad and Wolf Streets, with the entrance on Wolf Street).
-
Public transportation: There are several nearby subway and bus stops in the area. Public transportation and rideshare services are good options, particularly if you plan to enjoy a few glasses of wine.
Come hungry, bring your favorite bottle, and come ready for a great evening of Italian food and good company!
