About us
Familiar Company is an English-speaking community-building experiment.
Like many people, I've attended my share of social events where everyone repeats the same introductions, has the same surface-level conversations, exchanges contact details, and then never sees each other again. Conversations are often dominated by the loudest person in the room.
This group is an attempt to build something different.
Rather than treating community as something an organizer creates for passive attendees, I'd like to take a more open-source approach. The goal is to bring together people who are willing to help shape the culture, suggest activities, and contribute to building a small but genuinely welcoming community together.
We'll start with simple coffee meetups and conversations. Over time, that may grow into meals, museum visits, exhibitions, walks, creative projects, or whatever the community finds meaningful. The format is intentionally flexible because the focus is not the activity itself. The focus is building familiarity, trust, and mutual respect over time.
This is not a networking group. You do not need to be outgoing, charismatic, or loud. You do not need a personal brand, a startup, or an elevator pitch. You just need to be respectful, punctual, and not creepy.
If you're tired of restarting the same social scripts with a new set of strangers every week and would rather help build something more lasting, grab a coffee and pull up a chair.
The Ground Rules (I will try to run a tight-ish ship):
- The No-Script Filter: Share as much or as little as you are comfortable with, just don't be a creep. We will discover who you are organically through actual conversation. You just need to be willing to have real conversations, respect other people's time, and help create the kind of community you'd actually want to return to.
- Attendance Checking: To respect people who sign up, we will keep an eye on attendance. Last-minute flakes or no-shows will not be overlooked :D.
- Open Exit Policy: Feel free to leave at any point during the event. You absolutely do not need to be the last person to leave. If you aren't feeling the vibe, just grab your bag and head off into the mall—zero guilt, zero explanations needed.
- Privacy & Mutual Respect: I won't take photos of attendees without their consent, and I expect the same from everyone else. Some people value their privacy, and that's perfectly okay.
