Frontend & Design: 2025 Year in Review
Details
In our final event of the year, Justin and Schalk will walk through some of the most interesting developments from 2025. We saw security vulnerabilities shake up React and Next.js, reminding everyone to stay on top of dependencies. But there was plenty of good news too—the React ecosystem matured further, while Next.js continued refining caching and rendering strategies, and TanStack Start hit Release Candidate status in September, bringing a new full-stack option for React and Solid apps.
On the browser side, Firefox added support for the View Transitions API, bringing us closer to smooth native transitions everywhere. Figma enhanced Dev Mode and auto-layout, making design handoffs smoother. CSS continued evolving with better container queries, new colour spaces, and :has() becoming more widely adopted. Let's dig into what it all means as we head into 2026.
