About us
This is a hiking and social group for people who, like me, take life at a slow and steady pace. I love the outdoors, travel and hiking. I also love the arts. Hikes will be mostly medium-length ( 2 - 6 miles) with elevation gains of under 1500 feet and a pace of book time +50%. Older people who have slowed down, younger folks who are just starting out, people who are overweight and want to get moving, people who are recovering from an injury, people who occasionally like to stop and take pictures or smell the roses...anyone who wants to take things at a slower pace. Like the tortoise, we keep a steady pace and always get there in the end. Hikes and other events take place all year round and in various locations!

Walk the Sterling Rail Trail (with optional antiquing!)
Oh My Gosh, 15 Waushacum Ave, Sterling, MA, USCome for an easy morning walk along the beautiful Sterling section of the Mass Central Rail Trail. We will meet at the trailhead behind "Oh My Gosh" Antiques, where there is ample parking.
NOTE: Right now, weather says partly sunny and high 70s. Inclement weather will cancel this walk - please check before starting out!
The hike is a little less than 4 miles round trip and mostly flat. Kids welcome. Do not add them as guests, but mention in the comments. Sorry, no dogs allowed. Please dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes. Bring water and a snack. I always use hiking poles.
The trail is level and smooth and offers a range of scenery, from woodland to wetland to vistas across West Waushacum Lake and The Quag. A half-mile loop foot trail, off the Sterling Section of the MCRT proper, takes us to the former location of the Waushacum Park Picnic Grounds. Built in 1879 by the Fitchburg and Worcester Railroad Company, there was a train stop at the entrance. The Park offered a wide range of amenities: dance hall, bowling alley, merry-go-round, baseball diamond, boat and canoe rental as well as hotel and cabin accommodations. Lots of history. Afterward, there will be time to browse at the Antique Store if you're so inclined. They usually have muffins and coffee!

Fall weekend in the Berkshires
Great Barrington, 334 Main St, MA, USI am heading out to Great Barrington in the Berkshires for a nice weekend away. Anyone is welcome to join me for all or part of it. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! Some things need to be booked ahead, and some things will be on the fly, depending on the weather and my mood. You need to make your own arrangements for accommodations and event tickets. Or, make it a day trip!
I will head out Friday around noon. If the weather is nice, I may do a bit of a winding road to see the folliage. I am staying at an AirBnB right in Great Barrington. There are several available, plus various hotels. I plan to chill out for a bit and then get a nice dinner that evening at one of the many restaurants.

I am heading to Austerlitz, NY (right over the border) to Steepletop. This is the home of Edna St. Vincent Millay, one of my favorite poets. Her "Steepletop" residence in Austerlitz, NY is rarely open and only at specific times. I have booked a ticket to tour the house for 1:00pm, but plan to get there around 11:00 to wander the very beautiful grounds. TICKETS ARE VERY LIMITED.
