A six-session course in the theory and practice of the Craft, built around hands-on workings, practical magical work and exercises you take home — a real taste of what it is to practise Wicca, rather than a course of lectures about it.
Have you wondered about Wicca and whether it might be for you? Have you been practising alone, or with a group, and wanted to meet initiated Wiccans with some years behind them? Have you come to this through meditation, or yoga, or a long-standing curiosity you have never quite acted on? Any of those is a good enough reason to come.
We work with Wiccan philosophy and practice, with the emphasis firmly on practice: ritual, magic, and the slow business of attuning yourself to the power of nature — your own nature as much as that of trees and rivers and the turning seasons.
As a Mystery tradition, Wicca offers no final answers and no immutable truth. There is no Bible, no dogma and no Pope. It is a path of practice and personal experience rather than of belief, and what it gives you is not the peace of a Sunday afternoon but an ever-deepening spiritual adventure. It is also enjoyable — reverence and mirth in equal measure, and we take both seriously.
Held in English.
The two instructors are initiated, active Wiccans of British Traditional Wicca, with more than thirty years of practice between them.
What this is not. The Study Group is not initiatory training. It is not required for initiatory training, it is not the only route to it, and it does not guarantee access to it. It is a chance to find out whether Wicca is your thing, and to learn practices you can take away and use on your own. For some people it turns out to be a first step toward seeking initiation. For others it is a good foundation for practising alone, which is an entirely honourable place to end up.
The evenings. Six Friday evenings between January and June, starting at 20:00 and running roughly two to three hours.
- Friday 29 January 2027 — 20:00–23:00
- Friday 19 February 2027 — 20:00–23:00
- Friday 5 March 2027 — 20:00–23:00
- Friday 16 April 2027 — 20:00–23:00
- Friday 7 May 2027 — 20:00–23:00
- Friday 25 June 2027 — 20:00–23:00
You must register before the first session. There is no joining part-way through, because each session builds on the ones before it. We run the Study Group every year, so if this year does not work there will be another.
Applications are accepted at the sole discretion of the programme leaders. If we do not already know you from Fellowship events, we may ask you for a personal interview before confirming your place. This is not a hurdle designed to keep people out — it is simply how we make sure the group works for everyone in it. If we cannot offer you a place, your payment is refunded in full.
In Vienna, in person — not online. The exact address goes to participants once they have registered.
€180 for all six sessions, plus the Eventbrite booking fee of €13.07 — €193.07 in total at checkout. There is nothing further to pay us. For one or two sessions you may need to bring a small item or two of your own — eye of newt, wing of bat, that sort of thing — all easily found in Vienna, all inexpensive, and none of it anything you buy from us.
The book. Wicca is a broad tradition with many strands. This course follows, loosely, the shape of Wicca set out in Vivianne Crowley's Wicca: A Comprehensive Guide to the Old Religion in the Modern World: https://amzn.eu/d/0ipBaBmj
Reading it alongside the course is not required but is warmly recommended — and if you are undecided about joining, it is a good way to find out whether our kind of Wicca appeals to you. If you can afford to, please buy it rather than downloading it free. We earn nothing from it; we know the author, and good writers deserve paying.
Registration includes an online classroom where materials are posted and where the group can talk to each other and to the instructors between sessions, while you are putting what you have learned into practice. Sessions are recorded where the work allows it, audio only, and shared there along with any documents used — so you can go back over something, or catch up if you have to miss an evening.
Please note: clicking RSVP here does not register you. It is a friendly "I intend to come". To take part you must apply, register and buy a ticket through the link above.
