About us
We are a welcoming, all-inclusive community of sailors dedicated to getting as many people out on the water as possible and fast! We’re entirely free, unfunded, and fueled by passion, we just ask that you come with an open mind because our methods are unique. We believe a sailor’s greatest strengths are free time, resourcefulness, and the ability to fix things creatively.
What we do:
We host monthly community-building events where sailors help each other learn to sail, repair, and maintain boats.
Our story:
We launched over three years ago in New York City, running 30 consecutive monthly free three-day sailing seminars. Our members have done everything from circumnavigating Manhattan to surf sailing on Coney Island, camping on remote NYC islands, and twice in the famous Statue of Liberty catamaran race. We’ve organized countless free camping trips—and even broke a world record with our most fearless student as she become the first person (and first woman) to sail solo, without a motor, from West Palm Beach to the Little Bahama Bank in a 14-foot catamaran.
For more on our NYC roots, visit:
• NYC Vets 4 America Free Sailing School (over 1600 members) www.meetup.com/nycfss
• Pato Adventure Sailing Club (where we organized our most impressive events) www.meetup.com/patoclub
Where we are now:
We moved our free sailing seminars to Sebastian florida and after 6 months of hard work and preparation we started to offer our free monthly seminars there in March of 2025. We haven’t missed one yet.
We’re also currently running a free Sailboat Library in Florida—salvaging boats or accepting donated boats and either giving them to our members (membership is free) or lending them out for a deposit if they are really valuable.
What’s next:
We’re planning an epic flotilla trip to Cay Sal Bank and Mexico or the Bahamas if they lower the fees again like they are saying they will. Members and students can captain their own boat—or one of ours (for a deposit) for the adventure. We’ll bring as many small sailboats as possible on our motherships (a Gemini 33 and Fontaine Pajot 37) to take our message of community building through sailboats wherever we go.
How you can help:
- Come to our seminars and/or spread the word!
• Donate small dinghy sailboats or trailerable sailboats or catamarans of all sizes and trimarans of all sizes for our florida seminars.
• We specifically need plastic sailboats and catamarans or small kids sailboats for our Mexico kids program. We could really use a bigger sailboat as large as possible to carry the kids boats on. Lastly we could really use a land vehicle for shore support.
• Qualifying donations can receive a tax-deductible receipt.
Join us!
Come meet us at our next free 3-Day Sailing Seminar in Sebastian, Florida. And look out for our new V4A FSS in Miami coming soon!
