Friends from Other Flower Pots

Purpose:

Submit meaningful comments to proposed rules promulgated by federal agencies in support of the protection of endangered species.

Who should join:

Anyone who cares about protecting endangered species but never feels like there is anything tangible for them to do in support of such a mission besides give charitable donations.

What will you do at your events:

Under the Administrative Procedures Act, before a federal agency promulgates a regulation they (often) have to publish a notice of the rule in the Federal Register and allow the public to submit comment. While an agency need not respond to every comment, an agency has to respond to,

-Comments if true, which require changes in the proposed rule
-Comments which raise any significant issues
-Comments which challenge a fundamental premise
-Comments which are relevant

At these meetings we will discuss proposed rules about endangered species that are still within the public comment period. From this discussion, After the fact, we will log on to the federal register and submit our comments to the relevant agency.
