Educating South Sudanese Orphans in Kenya

Arok Garang, a former Lost Boy of Sudan, will speak at Secular Hub at 5:30 pm. June 28 on “Transforming Lives – Creating Ethical Leaders.” After spending nearly 10 years in a UN refugee camp, Arok came to Denver in 2001 with 3,800 of the Lost Boys admitted to the US. He earned a GED in Denver and a Bachelor’s Degree from CU-Denver. He now lives in Kenya.
Arok founded Seeds of South Sudan in 2009 to help more South Sudanese orphans receive an education in Kenya. Since then, generous sponsors in the US have helped educate 187 orphans. Now, 82 have graduated high school and 24 are in college in Kenya. The mission of Seeds is to educate refugee children to become “seeds of change for South Sudan.”
