About us
Are you Gen X or in your 50s, live in southern Wake County, NC and wondering what to do with this next phase of your life? Come wander with the Wandering Fifties. We are a weekly evening walk-and-talk for people in their fifties who like good conversation as much as good exercise.
Every week we are ust walking, thinking out loud, and seeing where it goes. "No big whoop!" (SNL Gen X reference)
We will meet every Wednesday evening, alternating between two nearby spots: Bass Lake trail (Holly Springs) and Hilltop Needmore Park (Fuquay-Varina). Walks run about 40–50 minutes at an easy, conversational pace, and all fitness levels are welcome. First-timers: we start from a clearly marked, public meeting point at each location, never a secluded trailhead. For now, we will meet at the clubhouse at either location. We start our walk 5 minutes after meet time. If you miss us, just catch up!
All are welcome. Come as you are, talk as much or as little as you like.
Financial Note: I'd love to continue this group, but it costs about $200 per year to run it. Not trying to make money off this, just break even. So, if you love this group and have the means, a small contribution would be amazing! Even $5 or $10 is helpful to help keep it going for the whole year! My venmo is https://venmo.com/u/Heather-Burns-4 or feel free to bring a few bucks in cash if you are so moved. Thank you Wandering Wonderers!
Weather policy: We walk rain or shine. Light rain and cold won't cancel us, so dress for it. When conditions are genuinely unsafe (thunderstorms, heavy rain, ice, extreme heat), we'll skip the walk. I'll post the call on the Meetup page and Facebook group by 5pm the day of, so just check there if weather looks iffy.
Group Guidelines:
- Be kind and be curious. Listen as much as you talk.
Disagreement is fine — disrespect isn't. - Keep it politics- and religion-free. This group is about ideas and stories, not debates.
- No pressure, no agenda. Come to walk and talk — nothing more is expected of you.
- This is not a singles group. All are welcome, as long as you are age 48-60, because hey, we're flexible!
- Respect personal boundaries. Ask before getting too personal, and take "no" at face value.
- Zero tolerance for harassment. If anything ever feels off, message me directly. Repeat or serious issues will result in removal of the offender from the group.
