A young British woman named Sinaloa (Sophie Reid) comes to Texas to find Merle (Allison Tolman), her half-sister by way of their late country musician father. It does not take long for Sinaloa to charm her way into Merle's life, as her singing awakens something in Merle, affecting some of the lingering doubts concerning their shared bloodline. But when all-too-familiar unresolved issues arrive, Merle's stable world soon starts to unravel: her job, impending marriage, and an already tense relationship with her mother, Patricia (JoBeth Williams). And while the family music legacy which originally brought this stranger to town momentarily provided some optimism, darker motives have been an inextricable part of the songs that she has been singing, showing glimpses of a violent rage that has been building for years. She will not leave without taking revenge against the people who stole her father away years ago.

La Barracuda features stand-out performances from both lead actresses, and makes excellent use of the Austin music scene with live performances of traditional and original songs.
