Open Discussion – Momentum
Details
During this meetup, we'll be taking a break from reading (mostly) and having an open discussion on a variety of topics, including one that's come up in a couple of recent meetings – Momentum investing.
Some context on the concept is provided from Investopedia.com below.
"Momentum in trading refers to how quickly a security's price changes, capturing the momentum of its trend. This strategy leverages the speed of price changes to identify trends for trade opportunities, often using oscillators in technical analysis to spot these potential moves.
Key Takeaways:
- Momentum in trading refers to the rate of acceleration of a security's price or volume, often used to identify and capitalize on trends.
- Momentum trading strategies aim to benefit from following market trends, buying securities that are rising and selling them when they appear to peak.
- Technical analysis tools, such as oscillators and trend lines, are commonly used to measure momentum and guide trading decisions.
- Momentum investing involves risks, including unexpected market reversals and changes in investor sentiment, which can lead to financial losses."

Some more general notes about the book club:
- We rotate through different types of books, with some covering historical or current events and others more along the lines of practical advice about how to do something.
- No specific ideas are necessarily endorsed – we try to read a variety of topics to expose ourselves to new ideas and ways of thinking.
- We try to grab the room to the back-right of Fortnight Brewing Company's main inside seating area (coming in the door on the front of the building, facing Maynard Road), but will get a table nearby if the room isn't available.
- No worries about coming in mid-discussion ― we usually manage to get off-topic anyways ― and feel free to come even if you didn't manage to finish the book. Also, no shame if you listen to it on Audible!
