SERIOUSLY SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES
Let's raise our intellects while we raise our glasses. We'll trade insights during the post-film discussion, as we explore mind-expanding documentaries and thought-provoking films.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?
We open at 4:45 PT for a little meet & greet, then at 5:00 we 'go dark' (turn off our Zoom mics and cameras) and view the film on our individual TVs, computers, or other devices. Ten minutes after the movie ends (to allow for a trip to the fridge, phone call, etc.), we return to Zoom, turn on our mics and cameras, and begin the discussion. Of course you can watch the film ahead of time, if you prefer, and join just for the discussion.

THIS WEEK
Between the Temples, directed by Nathan Silver
1 hr 51 min
Available on various streaming platforms found here: https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/between-the-temples

A cantor in a crisis of faith finds his world turned upside down when his grade school music teacher reenters his life as his new adult bat mitzvah student. The two forlorn souls develop a special connection.

"This is [Nathan] Silver’s ninth feature and, like his previous ones, it revels in capturing the alchemical, off-kilter chaos of oddballs in proximity; what makes it special has as much to do with the strange, spontaneous energies that fill the air between his characters as what it is they’re saying. Between the Temples could be broadly described as a behavioral comedy; it’s not a critique of organized religion but an empathetic study of how people constantly organize and reorganize their relationships to religion—and within that, their relationships to themselves and one another, in response to constantly fluctuating cross-currents of need, desire, and circumstance." - Isaac Feldberg, RogerEbert.com
