About us
First Stitch is a beginner craft group based in Amstelveen, open to anyone in the Amsterdam area who has always wanted to make something with their hands but never knew where to start.
We run small, hands-on workshops covering a range of crafts, from knitting to pipe cleaner flowers, in a relaxed and judgment-free setting. All materials are provided, so you just need to show up.
Your host started knitting in 2024 as a way to step away from screens, and has been making and learning ever since. Being a beginner-friendly space is at the heart of everything we do. No jargon, no pressure, just good company and the satisfaction of making something beautiful with your own hands.
Whether you are looking for a new hobby, a reason to slow down, or just something to do with your hands, you are welcome here.

Knitting 101

Knitting 101 is a small, hands-on beginner workshop where you will learn everything from scratch in a relaxed, judgment-free afternoon. Your host started knitting in 2024 as a way to step away from screens, so the beginner experience is still very fresh. Expect patience, zero jargon, and good company.
What to Expect
🕓 16:00 - 18:00 | A cozy Saturday afternoon activity- A walkthrough of different yarns, needle types and the few tools that actually matter
- Learn the long-tail cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch and cast off
- Plenty of time to practice with individual guidance throughout
- Cast on the start of a simple scarf to take home and keep working on
- All materials provided, including yarn and knitting needles, and yours to keep!
- Small group of 5 people max, so everyone gets proper attention
- No experience needed whatsoever
