Force yourself to write some fiction
Details
I am working on a novel that I keep pushing off and want to get back into the routine of grinding it out on a weekly basis. I find it enjoyable to do this with other writers who also face the same type of procrastination. It's like running or working out, the collective shame keeps us typing! I've also gotten some great ideas during these sessions that I used for later work. Hoping to spark that again.
A little info about the group. It is very informal! Roughly speaking, we go for a few 15 to 20 minute sprints, chat for a few minutes about what we are writing during our five to ten minute break, and then go at it again. I keep the group somewhat small per session so that I can grab one table and accommodate whoever says they are coming. The only thing I ask is that we keep it to prose fiction (so no poems please unless they are so free verse they are barely poems, like Bukowski). Sometimes I have been in these groups where the academics want to come in and write non-fiction with us and it gets too polluted by reality. This is a timeslot for dragons and trolls, not Newton.
So you know, I am also happy to help on your publishing journeys. I have self-published quite a bit myself (a novel, children's books and short story collections). Therefore I know my way around all of the headaches the process involves. Maybe I can help you avoid some low ceilings (I'm not sure that works figuratively yet, but I will eventually weave that in nice somewhere).
