SPECIAL VOLUNTEER EVENT this coming weekend – July 18-20 – PLANTING 800 GRASSES!

Details
Our recent controlled burn has given us an opportunity to add more grasses to the Sandhill restoration area at Mead Botanical Garden. We’ve decided to install 800 additional grasses this weekend including Wiregrass (Aristida stricta), Pineland Dropseed (Sporobolus junceus), Chalky Bluestem (Andropogon virginicus var. glauca), Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium), Split-beard Bluestem (Andropogon ternarius) and some Twinflower (Dyschoriste oblongifolia). The hope is to take advantage of recent and upcoming rains to help them get established quickly.
We’d like your help to meet this ambitious goal. Volunteers are needed to unload, place and install the 1 gallon plants. We’ll be working in the Sandhill during the following dates and times:
Friday July 18, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm– Unloading and placement of plants
Saturday July 19, 8:00 am to 12:00 noon – Installing grasses throughout the Sandhill
Sunday July 20, 8:00 am to 12:00 noon – Installing remaining grasses in the Sandhill.
Let us know if you can volunteer by registering for one or more days on our SignUp.com page using the link below. Be sure to dress appropriately and bring water or other beverage to stay hydrated, gardening gloves, a hat and sunscreen. We could also use extra shovels or post hole diggers if you have them.
Thank you so much for your support for this special planting event,
