Join us as we paddle near the Matanzas Inlet on a "high water" day.

We'll first paddle along the Summer Haven River (it's probably still full of sand now) to see what the high surf has done in the past week. Its protective sand dune system was first breached in 2008 (Tropical Storm Fay) and the last time was in the fall of 2022 (just a nasty nor'easter). In between there were 3 or 4 other breaks, each time resulting in a temporary mini-inlet followed by tons more sand coming in to fill the gap.

After that looksee, we'll head back north and pass the turburlent waters of the inlet, not venturing out the inlet but rather skirting it as we head toward the Fort. We'll probably have some big swells rolling inside, since we'll be passing near high tide, so spray skirts & PFD's are required. (PFD's always). We'll round the ICW corner and head south, stopping along a sandy beach to recover. With such high water we should be able to paddle thru a few of the connecting tidal creeks. Once the tide reverses direction we'll head back to the put-in / take-out.

We'll have a King high tide at 9:44 am, with these tides being this year's highest, except for November's (by a few inches).

Be sure to arrive in time to be on the water by 8:30 am.

Trip Difficulty: interrmediate skill level (due to sea swells & wind)
