We will kayak across the Saint Mary's River, paddle about 5 miles along the west coast of Cumberland Island and get out of our kayaks about 0.5 mile south of the Dungeness Dock. There will be an option to hike east about 0.25 miles to the Dungeness Ruins and to continue an additional 0.5 miles east to Dungeness Beach on the Ocean. After lunch we will paddle south along the west coast of Cumberland Island again and take a break at the beach at the sourthern tip of Cumberland Island before we return to the Dee Dee Bartels Boat Launch.

Please arrive at Dee Dee Bartels Boat Launch about 9:30 am so we can launch about 10:00 am.

There are bathrooms at the Boat Ramp.

There is no fee to use or park at the Boat Ramp.

Please bring $15 in cash to pay a federal park fee or a federal park pass.

Please bring a kayak, PFD, whistle, water, lunch or snack and sunscreen. You may want to bring a compact, lightweight beach chair.

We have seen wild horses, egrits, herons, fish and dolphins here.

Total time on land and water: 7.0 - 7.5 hours
Total paddling distance: 10-11 miles
Kayaking level: experienced intermediate
Tides: low at 10:25 AM and high at 4:45 pm

Please paddle within about 10 boat lenghts of the other kayakers.

Please do not sign up for this paddle if you are a beginning kayaker, you are not comfortable paddling at 2.5 mph for a long time or if you have an inflatable kayak, a folding kayak or a recreational kayak that does not have water tight, sealed compartments, because these kayaks can sink.

Please check this website in the afternoon or the evening the day before the paddle to see if there is a postponement due to a bad weather forecast. If a postponement is not posted by noon the day before the paddle, we will paddle the next day at the scheduled time for the paddle.

If you have not already done so in 2026, please complete and sign the Florida Sea Kayaking Release.
