The Person I Was There: A Mindful Art Workshop on a version of yourself (Zoom)
Details
Back home, you knew who you were. Somewhere in the move, that person got quieter.
This session is for anyone who has felt a gap between who they were at home and who they are abroad. There's a version of you that made sense in your own language and your own streets: fluent, funny, known... and it can feel far away in a new place. Through a guided mindful art process, we let the self you were and the self you're becoming meet on the same page. No choosing between them, no translating — both are allowed to exist.
This is not a technical class. No art experience needed.
What we'll do:
- A short grounding to arrive and settle
- A guided mindful art process using images, words, and symbols
- Quiet reflection + optional sharing (no pressure to speak)
This approach is grounded in art therapy practices, where symbolic imagery helps process identity shifts and the changing sense of self that comes with relocation.
What you might take from it
- A gentler relationship to the person you used to be
- A sense of continuity between your old self and your new one
- Space to notice who you're becoming, without rushing it
This is not therapy, but it is a structured, reflective space.
Materials to prepare:
- Paper / paint / colors / markers or pens
- Optional: magazines / printed images (or anything you can cut)
- Optional: an old photo of yourself, if you'd like one to work from
- Scissors + glue
Who this is for:
- Expats, immigrants
- Anyone navigating identity, belonging, or a shifting sense of self
