There is about a 1.5-mile hike through the forest's flat and muddy trails. We will reach a pedestrian bridge and access the river easily. This is challenging fishing that requires patience, roll casts, and steeple casts. The water is a tan-brown color with sandy bottoms, unlike anything we experience in local central Texas waters, and fall fishing keeps the snakes, reptiles, and mosquitoes at bay.

This is difficult fishing through rugged wilderness, and it's easy to get lost. I have been here once and can guarantee its difficulty. Tight spaces and vegetation screaming to be snagged may require that one angler fish a pool while the other(s) observe and learn. This is an expedition, as I would like to go further than where I stopped the last time, and learn how to fish in this new environment.

Cooler temperatures may require waders. There are affordable options at local and online stores, such as Living Waters Flyfishing and Big Y Fly.

I will have my camp stove for a hot meal after the hike back. Bring a chair, speaker, drinks, and any other foods for a roadside, middle-of-the-forest picnic with friends. Hmmm, stew?
